The Mid Range Game is a Lost Art

I was thinking, how did Michael Jordan score all those points to average 30 points per game for his career. Was it the dunks? Was it the layups? Was it his three point shot? No, none of the above. There is a great video on youtube thats about 4 hours long on Michael Jordan. It showed highlights I have never seen before. I showed when he was at North Carolina. His game in college was very simple.

Catch, drive, and shoot. Most of his shots were from free throw range and closer. DING*, that's it! His mid-range game was ridiculous. Shot after shot I watched him shoot from that mid-range distance. Then later on in his career he added the fade away. But why don't kids practice that more? They can dunk, and fly above the rim. But average like 14 a game. You can't dunk all the time, and you can drive all every defense. But you can shoot over the defense or create seperation to do so. Mid range. Thats the key young puppies. You have been schooled.

 OL SCHOOL OR NEW SCHOOL?

The debate over which generation is better still goes on. The Jordan era or this Lebron era. I'm a little biased because I'm close to 40 years old now. The Jordan era of the 80's and early 90's was the best era to witness basketball. So many legends of the game. Unique players, with signature original moves. Defense and hard nose basketball. And lets not talk about athletism. Those players back then could fly. Especially in games.

The skill level was also very good also. Just look at the shooting percentages for players and teams. There were more exciting players to watch and more team rivalrys. Even the Hawks were a great watch with Dominique Wilkins. The college game was better because you had good players staying 3 or 4 years of school. I still believe the old school ballers will whip up these young guys now. You can go watch a streetball game at the park or recreation league game and you see guys barely can make a layup. But the steady trying to shoot 3's, building bricks. And no one can play defense anymore. They just lazy. Bring back the basketball I used to love please.
