10th Annual Atlanta Classic

CIMG5351.JPGChampions: Supreme Court
Runners Up: Max-Out

The Atlanta Classic tournament has been around for over ten years now and has brought some great competition to the southeast. This year was no different. The number of teams this year was down, but their was still some good compeitive basketball.

Supreme Court was a major suprise this tournament because they haven't won a tournament in quite a while. But they seemed hungry and added some firepower in the post. Supreme Court once was a powerhouse in the 90's in the Atlanta area with their rival the Teddy Bears. But they dropped off the map for a long time. They didn't quit playing, they just stopped winning. But their sponsor and coach Nelson, is aimed to get Supreme Court back to respectability.

By winning the Atlanta Classic they have put their name back on the map. Can they stay there? At the Classic they showed their muscles with big man, Miguel Nobles and 6'7 Chester Winchester. With a little outside shooting and dominating inside play, they pushed their way to their first championship in over 7 years. Congrats to Supreme Court on an excellent tournament. Hopefully they can do as well in October for the National Championships!

Team United
is
on a mission

TeamUnited.jpgMichigan Tourney Results:

Champions - Team United
Runners Up - Toronto 25

Team United has won in Florida, North Carolina, and now Michigan. Where next? This team for years have traveled up and down the east coast winning tournaments and competing everywhere they go. They are always a contender with their talented squad lead by captain coach, John Miranda. Their star point man Benny Batoon maybe one of the more athletic point guards in asian basketball.

But why can't they seem to win a major tournament? They have never won the Atlanta Classic or a National Championship tournament. They seem not able to pull out a win in some of the bigger tournaments. Because major tournaments usually have tough teams with every game. So the margin for error is very low. In basketball or any sport when you are playing against good teams you have to play your best!

Their weakness seems to be free throw shooting, and lack of effort on the defense side of the ball. This team has the size and athletic ability, with good outside shooters. But they seem to not care about free throws. And defense mostly is about effort and the want to stop somebody, but I have watched them just sleep walk on defense. But is this year different for Team United. They seem hungry for the top spot! We will see if they can finally take the title in October in Atlanta.
